A music teacher affiliated with the École de Musique Vincent-d’Indy in Montreal and a member of the Quebec Music Teachers’ Association (QMTA), Danielle Fournier is also active as an accompanist, solo pianist, chamber musician and composer.
Her professional work has led her to produce various arrangements and compositions. Several of her pieces are integrated into the program of various educational institutions in Quebec. Her pieces are popular choices for examinations, music competitions and festivals.
This album is made up of 12 pieces written in a variety of French-influenced styles, with varied character and atmosphere. From Mary's Little Reverie to Apollo's Laurels and Indian Blue, the album takes the player on a musical journey full of melodic invention (but never too difficult!)
Danielle: I trust you will derive as much enjoyment from playing these pieces as I had pleasure in writing them!
Mary’s Little Reverie
Easier to play than to read, this little piece is full of softness and fineness. For beginners, this piece can, in fact, be taught by imitation.
Tease
Here is a mischievous and playful piece that takes us with good humor to a merry little carousel... and reminds me of past summer holidays, by the sea, with family, in company of cousins with their cheerful teasing!
Cradle Song
With this simple little piece, a few strokes of the magic wand will lift you gently onto a cloud drifting towards a land of dreams, childish rounds and shooting stars.
Cookie Dance
Have you ever seen cookies dancing? In any case, probably not for long...because they usually disappear pretty fast!
Monkey Swing
Here is a humorous piece, sprinkled with some voluntary “false notes”, just for laughs!
April Daffodils
A small piece full of freshness, like April daffodils!
Celtic Landscape
This lively short piece, combining the baroque style with the more modern ballad, welcomes you to a joyful dance, against a background of celtic landscapes.
Tribute to Players
This piece is above all dedicated to the impassioned fans of the Saint-Flanelle*; I submitted it in a national competition to find a new music theme for the TV show “Hockey Night in Canada”!
*Otherwise known as the Montreal Canadiens hockey team, whose sweater is made of red, blue and white flannel.Summer Ragtime
It’s time to have fun! Here, we find ourselves in the midst of holidays and festivities, with young and old surrendering to the charms and pleasures of Louisiana.
Indian Blue
A magic carpet, controlled by the flute of a snake charmer, sends us on an imaginary journey from Asia to America, and then returns peacefully to its Indian fold.
Suite no 1
Intrata: a modal opening with dissonant harmonies, reminiscent of the winds.
Choral: a continuous song whose ample and loose melodic line is underpinned by seductive, yet understated harmonies.
Courtly Dance: it is a day of celebration and all are invited: peasants, ladies and young damsels, with both their energetic dances and their graceful steps. Even little dog Pilou becomes an acrobat.
Apollo’s Laurels
Symbol of triumph since antiquity, the laurel was the sacred tree of Apollo, and the one whose leaves adorned the forehead of winners at the games of Olympus. The tree is still called today “Apollo’s laurel”, or “noble laurel”. Here is a piece to celebrate all the victories!
"I cannot recommend this book more highly - students will respond to the beautiful melodies, piquant harmonies and composerly attention to detail. A set of the pieces would be a wonderful addition to a recital programme for an intermediate player."

Lelia
A piece to celebrate Lelia, the Slavic Goddess of Spring, who watches over young shoots and the season’s first flowers. She is also said to be protective of lovers.
Colourful Umbrella (Ombrelle versicolore) With its mix of colors and a slight Asian touch, this piece could suggest an image of a Japanese umbrella with a beautifully colourful shade.
Tribute to Vigneault (Hommage à Vigneault) This melody is a tribute to the great Quebec poet Gilles Vigneault.
Song from the Townships (Chant des Cantons de l’Est)
Song for a sunny morning during which we come to savour the simplicity and sweetness of village life and pay tribute to elders who have built this wonderful cornerstone of our country.
Song for Jimmy (Chanson pour Jimmy)
My Song for Jimmy celebrates the joy and tenderness of good times spent with those we love, and the radiant charm of certain days that resemble a song...
Sweet Secret (Tendre secret)
The secret is in the score! And it is within your reach, to the extent that you recognize the theme of the previous piece Song for Jimmy...
